Obituary:
March 12, 1934-Nov. 16, 2005
Emmons Shumate, 71, of San Diego died Wednesday. He was born in Meridian, Miss., and was a civil service manager for the federal government.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a former chairman of the Trustee Ministry and was superintendent of the adult Sunday school department at Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Barrett, Jacqueline Manley and Sheryl Gee, all of San Diego, and Rosalyn Shumate of Live Oak; sons, Joseph Johnson Jr. of San Diego, Harold Shumate of Fresno and Gregory Shumate of Live Oak; sister, Lela Toler of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary, 5050 Federal Blvd., San Diego.Services: 1 p.m. Monday, with viewing from noon to 1 p.m., Bethel Baptist Church, 1962 Euclid Ave., San Diego.Interment: after services, Greenwood Memorial Park, Interstate 805 and Imperial Ave., San Diego.
